FAQs
1. Are the composite toe and plate of these safety shoes as safe as steel toe shoes?

Yes, composite or metal-free safety shoes and work boots are CSA certified for protection just like steel toe shoes. Composite toe safety shoes & work boots are often lighter than steel toe shoes. To find out more about the differences, read our blog on What are the Differences Between Composite Toe, Aluminum Toe and Steel Toe Safety Shoes and Boots.

2. What is the break-in period for work boots and safety shoes?

Work boots and safety shoes should fit well when you buy them. Your toes shouldn't be able to wiggle and not touch the toe cap. Your heel should sit snuggly but not too tight. Because of the  safety features (toe and plate) built into safety shoes and work boots, they don't loosen up like regular shoes or boots might. We recommend wearing them for a few hours at home before wearing them for a full day of work. After all, you wouldn't wear brand new shoes to go on an 8-hour hike!

3. Are these work boots waterproof?

Yes, these are waterproof work boots and are ideal for outdoor work or indoor work with exposure to moisture and liquids. If your job site has only light or occasional exposure to water, moisture or liquids then water-resistant work boots may be a better option as they are more breathable. To learn more about the differences, read our blog on Waterproof, water repellent, water resistant: what's right for your work?

4. Are these work boots ideal for cold work environments?

Yes, these work boots are insulated and designed for cold work conditions. Optimal Insulation levels also vary by activity level: 200g is ideal for temperatures from 0°C to -10°C with high-activity work, 400–600g works best for temperatures from -10°C to -20°C with moderate activity, and 800 to 1000g is recommended for temperatures with extreme cold temperatures with low-activity, where maximum warmth is needed.

Amazing comfort

Excellent purchase. Warm, comfortable and affordable. Well worth the money. Added benefit when you buy recommend sock liners and socks. Suggested the same boots to co-workers.

Warm boot but weak points

First of all I want to say I was impressed with the warmth that these boots had. They are relatively lightweight and I found them very comfortable. The soles provide excellent traction on snow and ice. These points alone would easily win it 5 stars.
I am disappointed though how they are already disintegrating after only 4 months of use. The laces are poor quality and don’t last 2 months but it may be partially the style of eyes that makes them wear faster. But I have numerous places where the threads are gone already or are unravelling. The seam on the back of the boot halfway up is also coming apart. Overall it appears I’ll be fortunate to get 8 months out of these boots unless I find a shoe shop that can fix them up for me before they get worse.
I purchased them from Work Authority and they are only offering me a 60% online credit toward a different purchase. I find that poor service for the price that was paid.

Toe box extremely cold

I bought these boots about a month ago I live in northern Minnesota so the winters can get pretty extreme, the construction of these boots was great, well put together boot really lightweight and comfortable but the toe box is really cold the real test came when it was -30 below here in Minnesota and my toes froze it was like I was wearing steel toes the rest of my feet stayed warm though the other issue I have with them is they do not stay tight and the laces are poor quality I recently noticed that the glue is starting to separate slightly from the sole of the boot and the stitching is starting to fray I will keep an eye on these issues overall a good boot but needs some improvements especially for the price the verdict is still out but I give them 3 stars for right now

Thank you for taking the time to review your Acton Cannonball work boots Orion!
